Everyone is concerned by food waste, from the farmer to the consumer. The Chamber of Agriculture of Pays de la Loire was engaged by the Association of the Chambers of Agriculture of the Atlantic Area (AC3A) to take part in the Food Heroes project. The aim of this European project is to set up innovative solutions in order to reduce food waste at the production stage.
Given this context, the ongoing challenges and undertakings are:
- Giving new value to billy goat meat. Goats are needed to produce milk, however, male goat meat is generally unknown and currently without much use in the region of Pays de la Loire. To know more on the subject, come visit us at the Nantes Food Forum 2018!
- Finding new economic opportunities through giving new value to market gardening surplus production and nonstandard unsellable products. Currently ongoing local projects aim to establish links between farmers and food processing facilities such as agri-food and food service industries present on the territory of Pays de la Loire.
- Communicating on good practices to the general public and farmers. For example, check out the “Digital solutions to avoid food waste” on our website.
In partnership with Solaal, a new dedicated webpage about food waste was created: http://www.pays-de-la-loire.chambres-agriculture.fr/etre-agriculteur/progresser-dans-ses-pratiques/valoriser-ses-invendus-agricoles/
